Mishustin announces discussions with Chinese PM on developing NSR, financial settlement system, number of projects

MOSCOW. May 25 (Interfax) - Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin and Premier of the State Council of China Li Qiang on Wednesday discussed in detail in Beijing the development of the Northern Sea Route (NSR), matters on food security, and the formation of an independent financial settlement system, Mishustin reported on Thursday during a meeting of the Russian government.

"We spoke in detail about developing transportation infrastructure, and increasing its capacity; we discussed in detail issues related to developing the Northern Sea Route (NSR); and we spoke about forming an independent system of financial settlements; we spoke in detail about ensuring food security; and we discussed projects in energy, industry, and agriculture," Mishustin said at the government meeting.

Mishustin noted that a number of documents were signed following the discussions, and said that representatives of the two countries' respective business circles also conducted serious work at the Russia-China business forum in Shanghai.

"We agreed on new major projects," Mishustin said, emphasizing the serious potential of bilateral cooperation in the petrochemical industry.

Mishustin said assuredly that, "It is very important to move forward in order to bring the strategic interaction between Russia and China to a new level. I would like to draw your attention to the fact that everything on which the leaders of the governments agreed will be implemented and brought to concrete results, as embodied in mutually beneficial projects for the benefit of our citizens."
