Ukrainian President's Office head, ex-NATO Secretary General Rasmussen discuss security guarantees for Ukraine before joining NATO

MOSCOW. May 25 (Interfax) - Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Andrei Yermak has spoken with former NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen, who is a co-coordinator of the International Advisory Group for developing recommendations on security guarantees for Ukraine, over the phone.

"The parties exchanged views on the outcome of the G7 summit that took place in Japan with the participation of President Vladimir Zelensky. The parties focused on providing Ukraine with security guarantees, which will be in effect until Ukraine's becoming a member of NATO," Ukrainian media quoted the press service for the Office of the President as saying.

The International Advisory Group set out recommendations for appropriate guarantees in the draft Kiev Security Treaty. "Yermak noted that the text of this document is a basis for discussion on the provision of guarantees to Ukraine. The parties agreed to further coordinate joint efforts with a view to Ukraine obtaining security guarantees and eventually NATO membership," the statement said.
