Int'l donors to give Ukraine extra EUR17 million grant to fund housing loans for IDPs

MOSCOW. May 25 (Interfax) - International donors will provide an additional grant of 17 million euros to Ukraine in 2023 to finance a housing loan program for internally displaced persons (IDPs), Ukrainian media said, citing the press service of the Reintegration Ministry.

Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister and Reintegration Minister Irina Vereshchuk discussed the housing loan program for internally displaced persons at a meeting with representatives of the State Fund for Support of Youth Housing Construction and the KfW Office in Ukraine, the press service said.

"This is one of the most efficient program to provide IDPs with affordable housing. I thank everyone involved for helping people in difficult life circumstances. In turn, we will help encourage other international donors to contribute to the grant program. This will become a powerful platform for the integration of IDPs into new communities," Vereshchuk said.

The Affordable Housing for IDPs project has been financed using a grant of 2.5 million euros issued by the German government under an intergovernmental agreement via KfW.

Loans at 3% per annum, totaling 892.6 million hryvni, have been granted to more that 650 internally displaced persons since the end of 2021.

Such loans can be issued to buy an apartment in an apartment block or a detached house put into operation no more than 50 years ago or refurbished no later than 25 years ago.
