Ukraine's energy system stable, but some customers in 6 regions cut off from power supply - Energy Ministry

MOSCOW. May 23 (Interfax) - While the Ukrainian energy system is operating in a stable manner and no consumption restrictions have been imposed on households, some customers in six regions still remain without electricity, Ukrainian media have reported with reference to the Energy Ministry.

"Despite difficulties, the energy system is operating in a stable manner. Major repairs are being done as part of preparations for a new heating season. No restrictions have been imposed on household customers," the ministry said in its daily update on Telegram on Tuesday.

At the same time, a number of customers in the Sumy, Kharkov, Kherson, and Chernigov regions, as well as five communities in the Zaporozhye and Donetsk regions each, have no electricity now, the ministry said. In particular, two coalmines in the Donetsk region have been cut off from power supply for the second day, it said.

Power supply has been resumed to customers in 16 localities in the Dnepropetrovsk region.

Ukraine is not planning to import or export electricity on Tuesday, the ministry said.

According to the ENTSO-E website, Ukraine only imported electricity from Moldova and Slovakia last Saturday and Sunday, and those imports were quite substantial on Sunday. In particular, electricity was imported from Moldova for nine hours at daytime at 76-148 MW and from Slovakia for 16 hours (from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.) at 24-286 MW. Ukraine only exported electricity to Poland and Moldova at 100 MW during the first four hours of Monday.

Over 28 million cubic meters of gas has been pumped into Ukrainian underground gas storage facilities over the past 24 hours, bringing the overall amount of gas reserves accumulated there to 9.3 billion cubic meters.
