Tansit time for cargo from China to Europe through Kazakhstan to be reduced by one day

ALMATY. May 19 (Interfax) - Kazakhstan plans to reduce the travel time of goods carried from Europe to China through its territory to five days from today's six days, Kazakh Prime Minister Alikhan Smailov said.

"The transit time through the territory of Kazakhstan earlier decreased from 12 to six days, and we plan to shorten it to five days by the end of this year," Smailov said at the second European Union-Central Asia Economic Forum in Almaty on Friday.

He said the Trans-Caspian route had already made it possible to reduce the delivery time of goods from China to Europe by about 65% or from 53 days to 19-23 days, and the transit time through Kazakhstan by 50%.

The Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR), also known as the Middle Corridor, is an international transport corridor that runs through China, Kazakhstan, the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and further to Turkey and European countries. The Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway is part of the corridor.
