Chinese special envoy met with Ukrainian FM in Kiev

MOSCOW. May 18 (Interfax) - The Chinese government's Special Representative Li Hui paid a May 16-17 visit to Ukraine, during which he met with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba.

Li and Kuleba discussed key issues of Ukraine-China cooperation both at the bilateral level and within international organizations, Ukrainian media said, during Ukraine's Foreign Ministry.

"Kuleba stressed that Ukraine does not accept any proposals that envisage a loss of its territory or involve freezing the conflict," the report said.

At the same time, the foreign minister emphasized the importance of China's role in implementing the Ukrainian president's "peace formula", the Black Sea grain initiative, steps to ensure nuclear safety and security, and in other major international efforts.

The parties separately discuss the long-term prospects of bilateral relations between Ukraine and China and agreed to step up the dialogue on key bilateral and international issues.

Chinese President Xi Jinping and his Ukrainian counterpart Vladimir Zelensky held a phone call at Kiev's initiative on April 26, 2023. It was announced after the conversation that China would send its government's special representative for Eurasian affairs to Ukraine, Russia and other countries for in-depth discussions on how to resolve the Ukrainian crisis by political methods.
