Parliament of Moldova's Gagauz Autonomous Region confirms Gagauz head election results at urgent meeting

CHISINAU. May 17 (Interfax) - The People's Assembly of the Gagauz Autonomous Region in Moldova has confirmed results of the Gagauz head election won by Yevgenia Gutsul.

The parliament made the unanimous decision on Tuesday evening.

The parliament held an urgent meeting after Moldova's National Anti-Corruption Center searched the Gagauz Central Elections Commission on suspicion of "illegal funding of the election campaign." Documents and lists of voters were seized.

That happened shortly after the Gagauz Central Elections Commission confirmed results of the Gagauz head election. Shor Party candidate Gutsul won the runoff election on Sunday.

The Gagauz parliament also voted for holding a congress of Gagauz deputies of all levels on May 27 to discuss the situation in the autonomous region and its relations with the central authorities.
