Daily transfer of agricultural cargos via Ukraine's western border down 3.7% in past week - Ukrainian Railways

MOSCOW. May 16 (Interfax) - The daily transfer of agricultural products at crossings on Ukraine's western border decreased by 12 cars, or by 3.7%, over the past week because of the restrictions imposed on agricultural imports from Ukraine.

A total of 316 grain cars are being transferred via the border crossings on the western border per day, whereas this figure previously stood at 580-660 cars per day, Ukrainian media said, citing data from JSC Ukrainian Railways.

Over this period, the number of railroad cars stuck at Ukraine's train stations in the vicinity of the Yagodin-Dorohusk border crossing declined from 240 to 209, including 202 cars with grain and seven with seed meal, Ukrainian Railways said.

As reported, Polish PKP Cargo is not accepting the aforementioned cars. At the same time, the average daily transfer of grain cars at this border crossing increased in May by 4.43 cars, or by 59%, to 11.93.

Apart from that, the number of railroad cars that have amassed at the Mostiska 2-Medyka border crossing, waiting to be transported by PKP Cargo, has grown from five to 29 on the 1,520mm track. However, cargos are being handed over without delay at the 1,435mm track. The average transfer of grain decreased by 5.2 cars per day, or by 29.6%, and stands at 12.36 cars per day in May.

The number of railroad cars amassed at the Izov-Hrubieszow border crossing has increased from 992 to 1,103 (on the 1,520mm track), including 414 cars with grain, 473 with seed meal, and 216 with sunflower oil. Over the past week, the average daily transfer of grain cargoes decreased by 3.26 cars, or by 26.4%, and stands at 9.07 cars per day this month.

A total of 33.36 cars with Ukrainian grain are being transferred via Polish border crossings per day, it said.

There are no problems with the transfer of agricultural cargoes at the border crossings with Romania, Ukrainian Railways said. The average daily transfer of cars at the Vadul-Siret border crossing increased by 2.17 cars, or by 4.31%, over the past week, and stands at 52.2 grain cars per day in May. The figures for the Dyakovo-Halmeu have dropped by 1.99 grain cars per day, or by 14.68%, to 11.57, and they stand at 24 grain cars per day at the Reni-Giugiulesti border crossing.

Thirty-three grain cars are currently waiting to cross the border at the Vadul-Siret checkpoint, there are 117 cars with grain and seven with seed meal at the Dyakovo-Halmeu crossing, and 94 cars with grain, 19 with seed meal, and 21 with sunflower oil at the Reni-Giugiulesti crossing, Ukrainian Railways said.

A total of 88.07 cars with Ukrainian grain are being transferred via the Romanian border crossings per day.

Ukrainian Railways has also confirmed the absence of problems at the border crossings with Slovakia, but added that these border crossings handle mostly mining and metals industry cargoes, and the share of agricultural cargoes processed by them is insignificant.

Slovakia permits only the transit of Ukrainian agricultural products. Slovak carrier ZSSK Cargo introduced amendments in line with the EU's decision to the convention banning the import of agricultural products, and the transfer of grain cars resumed within a week.

Over the past week, the daily transfer of grain cars at the Chop-Cierna border crossing increased by 5.74 cars, or by 46.55%, to 18.07 grain cars per day in May. These figures for the Uzhgorod-Matovske border crossing stands at 0.6 per day.

A total of 113 grain cars and 62 cars with sunflower oil are waiting to cross the border at the Chop-Cierna checkpoint, and there are ten grain cars at the Uzhgorod-Matovske crossing.

As regards the Chop-Zahony crossing on the border with Hungary, the daily transfer of grain at it decreased by 3.96 cars, or by 9.28%, in the past week, standing at 38.71 grain cars per day in May.

The figures for the Batievo-Eperjeske border crossing remain unchanged at 18.64 grain cars per day.
