Georgia will not impose sanctions on Russia - Georgian PM

TBILISI. May 11 (Interfax) - Georgia will not impose unilateral sanctions on Russia, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili said.

"We will not impose unilateral economic sanctions on Russia, as this step would create big problems for our population and businesses," Garibashvili told reporters on Thursday.

Sanctioned Russian companies and citizens will not be able to use Georgian territory, he said.

"As for trade with Russia and its economy, this is within our interests. Everyone should understand this fact, primarily our friends, if they are really our friends and have no other intentions," Garibashvili said.

Garibashvili said he is asking "our European friends who advise us to stop trading with Russia, to not resume flights, why you are not doing this yourself, not stopping your trade." "Last year alone, Europe gave Russia some 300 billion," the Georgian prime minister said.

Garibashvili said the people of Georgia want peace, stability, and the country's unification.

He also said everyone in Georgia wants military action in Ukraine to end as soon as possible.
