Mirziyoyev announces early presidential elections in Uzbekistan

TASHKENT. May 10 (Interfax) - Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev said at a meeting with the speakers of the parliament chambers, leaders of political parties and senior officials of the judicial and executive branches of government on Monday that he had signed a decree on holding early presidential elections.

"In line with the powers vested in the president of the country by Article 128 of the updated constitution, I have signed the second important decree. According to it, the presidential elections in our country will take place ahead of time," Mirziyoyev said in a statement circulated by his press service on Telegram.
