Pakistan plans to supply sunflower seeds to Russia - Rosselkhoznadzor
MOSCOW. May 5 (Interfax) - Pakistan is planning to supply sunflower seeds to Russia.
The conditions and prospects for supplies were discussed during negotiations with the technical director of the Department of Plant Protection of the Ministry of National Food Security and Research of Pakistan, Muhammad Sohail Shahzad, Rosselkhoznadzor said.
They discussed the phytosanitary status of the seeds, mechanisms for confirming the range and volume of products prepared for shipment to Russia, and whether they are subject to genetic modification. These issues are related to the fact that Pakistan has not previously supplied sunflower seeds to Russia, Rosselkhoznadzor specified.
According to the report, the representative from Pakistan explained that genetic engineering methods are used in the country, but only in the cultivation of cotton.
As reported, Rosselkhoznadzor banned the import of sunflower and corn seeds from eight shipping points in Turkey, Germany, France, Hungary and Kazakhstan as of May 5. The measure was taken in connection with the identification of quarantine objects for Russia and EAEU member countries in the seeds.
