Russian sports minister proposes hosting BRICS Games in 2024
MOSCOW. May 2 (Interfax) - Russian Sports Minister Oleg Matytsin has proposed hosting BRICS Games in Russia in 2024 at a government meeting chaired by President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday.
"The current situation proves the importance and the need to further strengthen the sports agenda in interstate associations, such as in the CIS, the SCO and BRICS, which are not subject to sanctions and restrictions by international sports bodies," Matytsin said.
"We propose intensifying the practice of [holding] open-format competitions. We also propose that BRICS Games be held in [Russia] in 2024, as part of the Russian presidency of BRICS. We believe this is particularly relevant from the point of view of BRICS's future expansion [to include] new members," he said.
