CBR knows of the individual responses to applications for unfreezing assets in Euroclear and Clearstream, sees no general trend towards resolution - Nabiullina

MOSCOW. April 28 (Interfax) - The Central Bank is aware of individual responses, both positive and negative, to applications for unfreezing the assets of Russian investors in the Euroclear and Clearstream international depositories, and there is no general trend towards getting them released, Governor of the Central Bank Elvira Nabiullina said at a press conference on Friday.

"As for the frozen assets, we are aware of isolated cases of both the issuance of permits and refusals. We do not yet see a trend to unfreeze them. Nevertheless, the National Settlement Depository and relevant professional participants are continuing to work to protect the rights of our retail investors," Nabiullina said.

The idea of creating a fund to compensate the losses of affected investors has not returned to the agenda, and alternative options are now being considered, she said.

"The idea of the fund, in our opinion, is very difficult to implement. We are now discussing other alternatives, and business has offered us alternatives. We are still looking for the best options. But there are no final decisions, because almost all the options are quite complicated," she added.
