NATO lacking political will to make decision on Ukraine's accession - FM Kuleba

MOSCOW. April 26 (Interfax) - Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba has said he believes that NATO is lacking the political will to make a decision on admitting Ukraine to the alliance, and has called on NATO "to make it happen."

"And for anyone who says it's impossible [Ukraine's accession to NATO], I'd like to refer to the case of Finland. Finland is a member of NATO. A year ago, it was impossible to imagine that this would happen. But now, when there was a political will to get Finland onboard, here they are. So, everything is possible when there is political will. Everything else is secondary. The primary thing is political will. And, yes, as of now political will in the alliance is lacking," Ukrainian media quoted Kuleba as saying in an interview with CNN.

A great deal of arguments as to why Ukraine could not join NATO were given during the NATO summit in Bucharest in 2008, he said.

"History proves all of these arguments wrong and misleading. So, it's finally time to recognize the reality and to make it happen," Kuleba said.
