Turkey sets 130% duty on imports of wheat, barley, corn as major importer of Ukrainian farms products

MOSCOW. April 25 (Interfax) - Turkey, the largest importer of Ukrainian wheat and barley, imposes an import duty on wheat, barley and corn starting from May 1.

The duty rate will be 130% starting from May 1, up from the current zero, the Ukrainian media reported with reference to Turkey's official gazette T.C. Resmi Gazete. This measure is aimed to protect domestic producers ahead of the new season.

According to the Ukrainian State Customs Service, in the first quarter of 2023, Turkey was the largest exporter of Ukrainian wheat worth $168.8 million, or 17.7% of its total exports, including $70.9 million, or 20.5%, exported in March.

In Q1 2023, barley was imported to Turkey from Ukraine for $52.7 million, or 42.1% of the total export of this crop, including $17.3 million, or 38.8%, in March.
