Russian part of grain deal not being fulfilled, circumstances do not favor extension - Peskov

MOSCOW. April 25 (Interfax) - Circumstances do not favor an extension of the Black Sea Grain Initiative, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

"Speaking of the deal, the thing is that so much time has passed but it has not been fulfilled, it has not acquired the nature of a package. The terms that concern us have never been met. So, circumstances do not favor this deal for now. We will continue observing," Peskov told reporters on Tuesday.

Peskov was responding to a question about whether Moscow might refuse to extend the deal, and whether the Kremlin shared fears that cutting it off "would instantly trigger a global food crisis."

"You and I know that the genesis of the global food crisis has different roots and is not a direct consequence of Ukrainian grain leaving the market. Indeed, the exit of both Ukrainian and Russian grain from the market could be a factor. But it is not a critical one. The genesis is different, and the Russian side has explained this on numerous occasions," Peskov said.
