Dozens of countries interested in floating NPP project - Rosatom head

MOSCOW. April 24 (Interfax) - Dozens of countries are interested in the floating nuclear power plant project, Rosatom General Director Alexei Likhachev said at an educational marathon of the Znanie (Knowledge) society.

"These are numerous countries with a long coastline, for instance, Brazil or Argentina. These are also numerous countries with insular infrastructure, such as Indonesia and Malaysia. These are both southern countries and countries located in high latitudes," Likhachev said.

This encourages Rosatom to create two types of floating nuclear power plants in the northern and southern configurations, he said.

"Essentially, it will be one engineering solution," Likhachev said.

The possibility of floating nuclear power plant projects abroad was discussed in the context of the 70-MW Akademik Lomonosov floating nuclear power plant. The world's first floating nuclear power plant was launched in Chukotka in 2020. It is the 11th nuclear power plant in Russia and the world's northernmost nuclear power plant.
