IAEA conducts unannounced inspections at Rovno, Khmelnitsky NPPs to verify absence of undeclared nuclear material

MOSCOW. April 19 (Interfax) - The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) conducted unannounced inspections at the Rovno and Khmelnitsky Nuclear Power Plants on April 18, 2023 under the Ukrainian-IAEA Safeguards Agreement in connection with the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), the Ukrainian State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate (SNRIU) said.

"The objective of the inspections was to verify the absence of undeclared nuclear material. The IAEA inspectors did not detect any irregularities," Ukrainian media reported citing the SNRIU's statement on its website on Wednesday.

The inspections were conducted by IAEA inspectors, and SNRIU officers took part in the procedures, as well, it said.

As reported earlier, the IAEA inspected the Rovno NPP on April 10-13, 2023 under its Safeguards Agreement with Ukraine in connection with the NPT. That inspection did not uncover any irregularities, either.
