Ukraine and Poland to streamline history and geography textbooks
MOSCOW. April 18 (Interfax) - Ukrainian Education and Science Minister Oksen Lisovy and Polish Ambassador in Kiev Bartosz Cichocki have discussed ways to support Ukrainian citizens who are studying in Poland.
"At the meeting, the parties discussed support for Ukrainian education seekers who have found shelter in Poland and steps to ensure the educational rights of representatives of the Ukrainian and Polish national minorities in Poland and Ukraine, respectively," Ukrainian media said, citing the ministry's press service said.
The Ukrainian side also emphasized the importance of working out mechanisms to accept Ukrainian students' educational results.
"In the context of efforts to update the contents of textbooks, the parties agreed to cooperate within the Ukrainian-Polish commission in charge of streamlining history and geography textbooks at schools," it said.
The minister also briefed the Polish ambassador on the progress made in drafting two international treaties on cooperation in the field of higher education and on the functioning of preschools and schools where children are taught in the Polish language or where Polish is studied as a language of a national minority in Ukraine, as well as on Ukrainian-language educational establishments and Ukrainian language courses in Poland. Lisovy said he is hopeful that these agreements will be signed shortly.
