Russian and Brazilian FMs discuss cooperation in UN, BRICS, G20

MOSCOW. April 18 (Interfax) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and his Brazilian counterpart Mauro Vieira have agreed to continue to align and coordinate the two countries' approaches in international affairs, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on its website on Tuesday.

"Special attention was given to key issues on the global agenda and to regional problems, including cooperation between Russia and Brazil on multilateral platforms, above at the UN and its Security Council, BRICS, and the G20. The parties confirmed their intention to continue to compare positions by the Foreign Ministries of the two countries with the aim of aligning and coordinating approaches on the world stage," the ministry said.

The ministers reviewed each other's efforts intended to bolster the Russia-Brazil strategic partnership and "exchanged views on the current state and prospects [...] of cooperation in political, material, cultural and humanitarian issues," it said.

Lavrov was also received by Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and met with the Brazilian leader's foreign policy advisor Celso Amorim.

Brazil was the first country visited by the Russian foreign minister as part of his Latin America tour.
