U.S. imposes sanctions against Rusatom Overseas and company president

MOSCOW. April 12 (Interfax) - The U.S. Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) has imposed sanctions against Rusatom Overseas and its president, Evgeny Pakermanov, OFAC said in a statement.

Rusatom Overseas is the division of state corporation Rosatom responsible, in particular, for the construction of a low-capacity nuclear power plant in Yakutia and the development of the hydrogen sector.

The company also promotes Rosatom's non-energy products in the field of nuclear technologies on the international market, which can be used for healthcare, science, industry and agriculture.

Umatex, a Russian manufacturer of carbon fiber, which is part of the Rosatom state corporation, was also hit by U.S. sanctions at the end of February. The UK earlier imposed sanctions on Rosatom CEO Alexei Likhachev and the All-Russian Scientific Research Institute of Experimental Physics, which is part of the state corporation.
