More than 2,000 vehicles waiting to enter EU from Belarus

MINSK. April 12 (Interfax) - More than 2,000 vehicles are waiting to enter EU countries from Belarus, the Belarusian State Border Committee said on Wednesday.

"More than 2,000 vehicles are waiting to enter the EU. The control services of the neighboring countries continue to ignore observance of quantitative regulations for admitting traffic, deliberately creating congestion at the border," the report said.

Freight transport has accumulated in front of seven of the border crossing points operating on the Belarusian-EU border, it said. "The busiest route is the [one running] through Lithuania's Medininkai(Kamenny Log), where only 33% of the normal [amount of] road vehicles were cleared over 24 hours," the report said.

According to the Belarusian State Border Committee, the number of trucks waiting to enter the EU is approaching 1,400, and the number of cars is close to 650.

"Lines of cars have been recorded along all routes to Lithuania and Poland. The largest amount of vehicles has accumulated in front of the Polish crossing point Terespol (Brest), whose officials have cleared only 37% of the normal amount of cars," the Belarusian State Border Committee said.
