Russian athletes to take part in Bolivarian Games

MOSCOW. April 11 (Interfax) - Russian athletes will take part in the 5th ALBA Bolivarian Games due to take place in Caracas and La Guaira (Venezuela) on April 21-29, the press service for the Russian Sport Ministry said.

About 3,500 athletes from 11 countries including Bolivia, Venezuela, Cuba, Nicaragua, Dominica, Antigua and Barbuda, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Saint Lucia, Grenada, Saint Kitts and Nevis, as well as Russia, will take part in the competitions.

Russian athletes were invited to the Games in February, at a meeting of Russian Sport Minister Oleg Matytsin and his Venezuelan colleague, Mervin Enrique Maldonado Urdaneta.

The Russian delegation consists of 48 athletes who will compete in boxing, beach volleyball, karate, table tennis, trampoline gymnastics, weightlifting, and rhythmic gymnastics.

In total, participating athletes will compete for medals in 35 sports events.
