Russia plans to launch joint production of electron accelerators with Vietnam - Deputy PM

HANOI. April 7 (Interfax) - Russia plans to set up joint production of electron accelerators for industry and medicine with Vietnam, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko said.

"We will make efforts together with Rosatom to establish joint production in Vietnam of electron accelerators that will be used in industry and science," Chernyshenko said at a meeting with senior officials of the Vietnam Atomic Energy Institute (VinAtom) on Friday.

Rosatom has the necessary expertise to manufacture electron accelerators and has an extensive record of supplying them to foreign markets, he said.

Russia also views VinAtom as a partner for broader cooperation as part of the construction of an international research center at the multi-purpose fast-neutron research reactor in the city of Dimitrovgrad, Chernyshenko said.

"I have been informed that scientists from VinAtom are already participating in the work of the consultative council. We expect the Vietnamese side to become a full-fledged participant in the MTsI MBIR consortium soon. It will give a powerful impetus to the development of all of Vietnam's nuclear science," Chernyshenko said.
