G7 ambassadors support appointment of 16 new members of Ukraine's HQCJ

MOSCOW. April 7 (Interfax) - Ambassadors of the G7 countries have called for maintaining transparency during the further selection of members of Ukraine's High Qualification Commission of Judges (HQCJ) and have spoken in favor of the timely appointment of 16 HQCJ members.

"The G7 ambassadors confirm their support for the current process of appointing 16 new members of the HQCJ and emphasize the importance of conducting the remaining rounds of selection in a transparent and open manner," Ukrainian media said, citing information circulated on social media by the Japanese presidency of the G7 Ambassadors Support Group in Kiev.

On March 15, the commission selecting candidates for the posts of HQCJ members endorsed a final list of 32. Sixteen of them will be appointed by the High Council of Justice to these posts. There are ten judges among the candidates.

The HQCJ's work in Ukraine has been on pause since 2019. Its relaunch will help make up the country's shortage of judges and complete the qualification assessment.
