Number of tourists visiting Kiev down to 270,000 in 2022 from over 3 mln in 2021 - city administration

MOSCOW. April 6 (Interfax) - As many as 270,000 Ukrainian and foreign tourists visited Kiev in 2022, a decline by over 91% from 3.12 million tourists that visited the city in 2021, the Kiev city administration's tourism and promotion directorate said in a report to a public council.

Ukrainian media reported with reference to the directorate's social media post that the number of foreign tourists who visited Kiev declined to 98,000 in 2022 from 1.02 million in 2021, and the number of domestic tourists declined to 172,000 in 2022 from 2.1 million in 2021.

The countries leading in terms of the number of their tourists who visited Kiev in 2022 include Israel (9,100 tourists in 2022 versus 105,100 in 2021), Turkey (6,800 vs 69,500), Germany (6,400 vs 71,700), the United States (5,600 vs 75,500), and the United Kingdom (4,300 vs 35,000).

In 2021, Saudi Arabia ranked fifth on this list instead of the UK with 46,900 tourists who visited Kiev.

While the number of tourists who visited Kiev dropped by over 90%, the revenues from tourism fees declined only by half, to 38.8 million hryvni in 2022 from 76 million hryvni in 2021, which the report attributed mostly to visits of foreign delegations and members of the press, who arrived in the city to perform their professional duties.
