Uzbekneftegaz and Bashkortostan's Peton developing new ethane processing technology together

UFA. April 5 (Interfax) - Uzbekneftegaz and the Peton holding in Bashkortostan are studying the prospects for expanding cooperation in the field of gas processing and gas chemistry, modernizing processing, and introducing highly efficient scientific developments, Uzbekneftegaz's press service reports.

This primarily relates to process improvements for processing natural gas at the Mubarek Gas Processing Plant, the Shurtan Oil and Gas Production Department and the Shurtan Gas Chemical Complex.

"According to the results of negotiations, we plan to conduct joint research on the monetization of ethane from raw gases, reducing the content of mercaptan sulfur in commercial gases to established standards, increasing the efficiency of acid gas purification and obtaining a technical sulfur product from them, increasing the efficiency of the separation and purification of liquefied hydrocarbons, and improving the technological capacities of production," the press service said.

The Mubarek Gas Processing Plant is engaged in the purification and dehydration of natural gas from sulfur compounds, the production of technical sulfur, stable gas condensate and liquefied gas. The annual processing capacity of the enterprise is 31 bcm of natural gas (raw materials are mainly supplied from the fields of Muborakneftegaz and LUKOIL ), for the production of sulfur - 482,000 tonnes, liquefied gas - 258,000 tonnes, and stable gas condensate - 125,000 tonnes.

The Shurtan gas chemical complex is located in the southwestern part of Uzbekistan, on the territory of the sandstones of the Guzar district in the Kashkadarya region, on the base of the Shurtan gas condensate field.

The Shurtan Oil and Gas Production Department has been extracting gas, gas condensate, processing oil fields, and preparing and processing natural gas and gas condensate from 43 fields for over 40 years. The production complex includes a gas pre-treatment unit with a design capacity of 16 bcm per year, two compressor stations for 8.6 bcm and 13.5 bcm respectively, low-temperature separation devices of I-IV orders for 16.66 bcm, a condensate stabilization unit (600,000 tonnes of unstable gas condensate and 13,680 tonnes of liquefied gas), and a sulfur degassing unit using zeolite (17.35 bcm).

Uzbekneftegaz is the monopoly operator of the oil and gas complex of Uzbekistan, whose capacity allows for production of about 70 bcm of gas and 8 million tonnes of liquid hydrocarbons per year. However, due to the depletion of reserves and technological losses, its production is declining. In 2021, 116,000 tonnes of oil and 1.4 million tonnes of gas condensate were produced in the republic.

Peton Holding, according to its website, is a leader in domestic engineering with a full set of Russian licenses for the implementation of turnkey projects for the construction of refineries with a Nelson index of 10+ and gas processing plants; for more than 30 years, Peton has been modernizing existing, and developing new, industries in gas and oil processing, gas production, petrochemistry and the chemistry of ultrapure substances.

The holding unites a number of companies with a total number of 8,000 employees, including Peton Construction and Peton Mechanization. It has several representative offices (in Moscow, Ufa, St. Petersburg, Rostov-on-Don, Novy Urengoy, Oktyabrsky, Kondratievo, Orenburg, Svobodny, Irkutsk, and Dzerzhinsk), office centers and production. Over the past 30 years, Peton has implemented over 170 projects in Russia, the CIS, Asia, Eastern and Western Europe.
