Price of Russian gas for Moldova drops by one-third to $673 per thousand cubic meters

CHISINAU. April 3 (Interfax) - Moldova's purchase price for Russian gas in April will be $673 per thousand cubic meters, Vadim Ceban, chairman of the board of Moldovagaz, said on his telegram channel.

As reported, in March, the purchase price of Russian gas for Moldova was $1,011.73 per thousand cubic meters. In April, it fell $339, or by 33.5%.

The gas price for Moldova is formed on the basis of the oil basket, and also depends on one of the Front Month Index exchange indexes.

Until fall of 2021, Moldova purchased gas exclusively from Gazprom . In the fall of 2021, Moldova started buying gas from alternative sources as a test, and in 2022, the country spent 300 million euros for this purpose. The purchased gas was stored in Romania and Ukraine. Since December 2022, Moldova has refused to consume Russian gas, sending all gas received from Gazprom to the Transdniestrian region, which is not controlled by Chisinau. There, the gas is used to fill domestic requirements, as well as for generating electricity at the Moldavskaya GRES power plant.
