Moldova extends state of emergency for 60 more days

CHISINAU. March 30 (Interfax) - The Moldovan parliament has extended the state of emergency for another 60 days at the government's request on Thursday, an Interfax correspondent reported.

Sixty-one parliament members (out of 101) from the ruling Action and Solidarity Party (PAS) voted for the decision.

The opposition Bloc of Communists and Socialists (BCS) in the Moldovan parliament called for the extension of the state of emergency to be removed from the plenary session's agenda. The opposition proposed returning to "normality, to work within the law," but MPs from the ruling PAS did not support the initiative.

The state of emergency was imposed in Moldova on February 24, and was later extended six times for 60 days and once for 45 days. The last decision was made in early February, and the state of emergency's term expires on April 5.
