Ukraine plans to boost share of RES generation in energy balance to 50% parity with NPPs - Energy Ministry

MOSCOW. March 29 (Interfax) - Ukraine plans to accelerate developing power generation by alternative energy sources, thereby bringing its share in the country's energy balance to 50% parity with nuclear generation, Ukrainian media reported, citing Energy Minister German Galuschenko.

"We see the future energy mix of Ukraine as follows: 50% will be nuclear generation, which still produces more than half of all electricity in Ukraine, and the remaining 50% will be produced by renewable energy sources," Galuschenko was quoted as saying on the Energy Minister's Telegram channel.

Galuschenko noted that the country "remains committed to the global goals of the green transition, and developing renewable energy sources (RES) and accelerating the energy transition will allow Ukraine to strengthen the country's energy security overall and the security of electricity transmission in particular."

Galuschenko recalled that Ukraine's energy strategy envisages the country using RES to generate 25% of its electricity by 2035.

However, given the current destruction of thermal generation facilities and grids, it is necessary to accelerate developing renewable sources, which should allow decentralizing electricity generation, reducing the vulnerability of the energy system, and improving supply security, Galuschenko added.
