WB to continue strategic partnership with Ukraine to support its education sector

MOSCOW. March 29 (Interfax) - The World Bank is willing to continue strategic partnership with Ukraine on restoring, reforming, and developing its education and science sector, Ukrainian media reported citing the Education and Science Ministry.

"We need to enhance this cooperation, in particular, by arranging permanent interaction with an international coalition of donors and partners. It's important to initiate a framework agreement on bolstering the education and science sphere in Ukraine," the ministry's press service quoted Education and Science Minister Oksen Lisovoi as saying following a meeting with World Bank Country Director for Eastern Europe Jordan Schwarz.

The establishment of an expert panel in partnership with the World Bank would help analyze and compare educational programs in Ukraine and in the countries where Ukrainian children are staying now, he said.

The priorities of this coalition would include security of the education process, the reconstruction of damaged and destroyed educational facilities, and an analysis and continuation of reforms in the general secondary education, vocational, and higher education fields, Lisovoi said.

Schwarz said the World Bank is willing to continue to be Ukraine's strategic partner for reconstruction in the context of new challenges.
