Ukraine not expecting electricity deficit within next 6 months - Urkenergo head

MOSCOW. March 29 (Interfax) - Ukraine's power grid will have enough electricity within the next six months to meet consumer demand, the Ukrainian media quoted Ukrenergo CEO Vladimir Kudritsky as saying during a national telethon on Tuesday.

"The Ukrainian power grid is part of the European one, which means we will have a chance to import electricity if we have a domestic deficit, which is a very important factor of national energy security. So, I believe we will see a balanced situation in the power grid in spring and summer months," Kudritsky said.

He said at the same time that electricity companies should prepare for next winter. "First and foremost, it would be necessary to resume operation of damaged units of thermal and hydropower plants and mobilize all resources of the power grid to pass through the winter without blackouts and damage to the population and our economy," Kudritsky said.

According to Ukrenergo, all types of power plants are currently operational in Ukraine. There is enough electricity for consumers. Insignificant amounts of electficity are being imported.
