Ukraine's 28th Antarctic Expedition arrives at Academician Vernadsky research base

MOSCOW. March 28 (Interfax) - The Noosfera research icebreaker carrying the team of the 28th Ukrainian Antarctic Expedition has arrived at the Academician Vernadsky research base, Ukrainian media have reported with reference to the Education and Science Ministry.

"The ship is going to be unloaded and the expeditions rotated within the next few days. Scientists and specialists from the 27th Ukrainian Antarctic Expedition who have worked at the Vernadsky base for a year will be turning over their duties to their colleagues from the 28th Antarctic Expedition," the ministry said.

The two expeditions will then observe a traditional base handover ceremony, after which members of the 27th expedition will depart home, and members of the 28th will stay there for another year.

Their principal duties will include geophysical, meteorological, and biological measurements and research and maintaining the base's functioning.
