Number of cattle in Ukraine down by 16% over past year - association
MOSCOW. March 28 (Interfax) - The number of cattle in Ukraine has gone down by 15.6% over the past year to 2.409 million as of March 1, 2023, the Ukrainian Association of Milk Producers reported.
In particular, the number of cows has decreased by 15% to 1.347 million head.
There were 936,700 head of cattle, including 389,900 cows, at commercial dairy farms as of March 1 (down by 7.5% and 8.5% respectively over the past year).
The most significant decline in the number of cattle has been recorded at households (by 21% to 1.47 million head, including a decline in the number of cows by 17.6% to 957,400 head).
Cattle exports from Ukraine have increased over the past year, the association said. Based on the State Statistics Service preliminary data, Ukraine exported about 2,300 tonnes of live cattle to Lebanon and Egypt in February 2023, which is 19.2% more than in January 2023.
