Ukrainian govt allocates funds to procure wheat for African countries

MOSCOW. March 22 (Interfax) - The Ukrainian government has provided funds to procure 125,000 tonnes of wheat and corn that will be delivered to African countries, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denis Shmygal said.

"We have approved a resolution on the continuation and necessary funding of the Grain from Ukraine initiative. This week, another ship carrying 30,000 tonnes of humanitarian wheat has been shipped to Yemen. We are allocating the necessary funding to ensure that the initiative continues," Ukrainian media quoted Shmygal as saying at a government meeting on Tuesday.

This money will be used to procure 125,000 tonnes of wheat or corn which will then be delivered as humanitarian aid to African countries, he said.

"In total, Ukraine has already shipped over 25 million tonnes of agricultural products through the Black Sea ports as part of the Grain Initiative. We expect not only to continue but also to expand this project," the prime minister said.
