MINSK. March 16 (Interfax) - Belarus and Brazil have agreed to build two plants for joint production of tractors made by the Minsk Tractor Works (MTW), and project work is already underway, the Belarusian ambassador to Brazil, Sergei Lukashevich said.
"An agreement has already been reached on the construction of two plants, approval has been received from the governors of these [Brazilian] states, and project activities are underway," Lukashevich told state news agency BelTA.
"The process has been launched. We're looking at what components and assemblies, in what form and where, we could make together here in Brazil. I, as the ambassador, am happy that specialists have already begun to discuss these nuances, there are positive signals. So far the information is inspiring cautious optimism in us in the systematic, smooth implementation of this project, production project for tractors," Lukashevich said.
He said the niche for Belarusian machinery in Brazil will be family farms, which are the foundation of local agriculture. This refers to small basic tractors with 20-25 hp.
