Tajik president, CSTO secretary general discuss countering of security threats

MOSCOW. March 13 (Interfax) - Tajik President Emomali Rahmon and Secretary General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization Imangali Tasmagambetov have discussed CSTO tasks in Dushanbe, the presidential press service said on Monday.

"The Tajik president emphasized the relevance of closer interaction in the political dimension, the broadening of the CSTO's international activity, and the higher efficiency of military, military-technical and military-economic cooperation," the press service said.

The importance of stepping up comprehensive efforts to counter security threats and challenges, such as terrorism, extremism, radicalism, drug trafficking, cybercrime, and transborder organized crime, was underlined, it said.

The sides noted "the need for enhancing the CSTO's potential for effective countering of the current security risks and threats," the press service said.

The sides also exchanged views on the situation in Afghanistan and other topical items on the global and regional agendas.
