Kyrgyz president, CSTO secretary general discuss regional security

BISHKEK. March 10 (Interfax) - Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov has met with Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Secretary General Imangali Tasmagambetov to discuss regional security, the Kyrgyz president's press service said on Friday.

"Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov has received CSTO Secretary General Imangali Tasmagambetov. The sides exchanged views on the provision of regional security and stability and priorities of interaction in the organization," the press service said.

Japarov noted that Kyrgyzstan attaches great significance to cooperation in the CSTO, which is the guarantor of regional security, the press service said. For the purpose of military, information and humanitarian coordination, Kyrgyzstan is planning to host the CSTO Unbreakable Brotherhood exercise this year.

"As is known, there is a risk of migration of international terrorists, who have combat and sabotage experience in hot spots, into various countries for recruitment of citizens and perpetration of terror attacks. Our countries are not an exception. Therefore, it would be necessary to step up respective efforts and timely respond and prevent possible destructive actions. For its part, Kyrgyzstan is taking respective measures to ensure national security and stability," Japarov said.

Kyrgyzstan is interested in bolstering the role and authority of the CSTO, Japarov said. "The organization has a large capacity for the provision of national security of CSTO member states," he said.

Tasmagambetov briefed Japarov on the implementation of the action plan fostering resolutions of the November session of the CSTO Collective Security Council, endorsed by the Belarusian presidency of the CSTO.

The sides affirmed mutual interest in fruitful, mutually advantageous cooperation in every aspect of the CSTO.
