Ukraine plans to reduce areas under spring crops by 3.4% to 5.7 mln hectares in 2023 - Ministry of Agrarian Policy

MOSCOW. March 10 (Interfax) - The projected sowing areas of the main spring crops for the 2023 harvest in Ukraine are 5.7 million hectares, which is 206,500 hectares or 3.4% less year-on-year, Ukrainian media reported, citing the website of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food.

To date, 16,100 hectares, or 0.2% of the planned area, have already been sown with spring grain and leguminous crops in Ukraine.

The ministry clarifies that only the Odessa region has started sowing spring crops. Sowing had not begun yet at the same time a year earlier. Thus, all categories of farms in the region have sown 16,100 hectares of grain and leguminous crops, including 6,700 hectares of spring wheat, 5,900 hectares of spring barley, and 3,500 hectares of peas.

As reported, Ukraine sowed 14.16 million hectares of land with main crops in 2022, which was 83.7% of the figure of 16.92 million hectares sown in 2021.
