Ukraine to receive 5,700 Enel solar panels for public sector with EU support
MOSCOW. March 6 (Interfax) - Ukraine will receive 5,700 solar photovoltaic panels of 350 Watt each produced by Italy's Enel for its public sector with support from the European Union by summer, the Energy Ministry said.
Ukrainian Energy Minister German Galushchenko, European Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson, and Enel CEO Francesco Starace discussed this decision at an online meeting, Ukrainian media outlets said, citing information of the ministry's social networks.
The solar panels will be delivered to Ukraine with logistic support of the EU Civil Protection Mechanism and the Energy Community.
"Gradual decentralization of Ukraine's energy system is a guarantee of its security and resilience. In pursuing this course, the Ministry of Energy will focus on stimulating the development of green energy. It is especially important today to expand the capacity for autonomous power supply of facilities that are vital for the country's functioning," the ministry quoted Galushchenko as saying in the statement.
He thanked Enel, all European companies, and the European Commission for their support and solidarity with Ukraine.
According to Simson, with this first project, the EU wants to launch a wider initiative to increase Ukraine's energy security through the development of its renewable capacities.
