AEON coal division to mine anthracite at Lemberovskoye deposit on Taimyr

KRASNOYARSK. March 3 (Interfax) - The authorities of Krasnoyarsk Territory and North Star LLC, a division of AEON Group, signed an agreement on the development of the Lemberovskoye anthracite deposit on the Taimyr Peninsula at the Krasnoyarsk Economic Forum (KEF), the regional government's press service said.

The project involves production of grade A coal concentrate at a processing plant near the deposit. Shipments will be made from a marine terminal in the southeastern part of the Kara Sea, near the entrance to the Yenisei Gulf along the Northern Sea Route.

"We will complete construction of the first marine terminal on Taimyr this year. The next stage is mining anthracite, the composition of which is the most unique in the world," North Star board chairman Oleg Demchenko was quoted as saying by the press service.

The Lemberovskoye anthracite and hard coal deposit is located near the Dikson seaport in Taimyr's Dolgano-Nenets district of Krasnoyarsk Territory. Current information about its reserves is not available on the website of the unified database of geological information about subsoil resources.

North Star is working on a project to develop the Syradasaiskoye coal deposit with resources estimated at 5 billion tonnes, which is located 110 km southeast of Dikson. The project involves building an open-pit coal mine to produce up to 5 million tonnes per year in the first stage and 10 million tonnes per year in the second, a washing plant and necessary infrastructure, including the Yenisei seaport, roads, workers' camp, power plant and airport. Investment in the project is expected to total more than 45 billion rubles by 2025 and exceed 100 billion rubles overall.
