Russia's Energy Ministry expects upward trend in energy consumption to continue in 2023

MOSCOW. Feb 28 (Interfax) - Russia's Energy Ministry expects the country's upward trend in energy consumption to continue in 2023, the ministry said in a statement following the speech of Energy Minister Nikolai Shulginov at meetings with deputies from the Communist Party and A Just Russia factions.

Shulginov recalled that the growth rate was 1.5% in 2022.

Russia's energy consumption totaled 1123.6 billion kWh in 2022, with electricity generation rising 0.7% year-on-year to 1138.7 billion kWh.

Power generation declined 0.4% year-on-year and 0.8% month-on-month, respectively, to 113 billion kWh in January 2023, the Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat) reported.
