Death toll from quake in Turkey exceeds 41,000
ISTANBUL. Feb 20 (Interfax) - The death toll from the devastating earthquake in Turkey has risen to 41,156, the Anadolu agency said on Monday with reference to the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD).
"The death toll from the quake with the epicenter in Kahramanmaras, Turkey, has reached 41,156," the agency quoted AFAD as saying.
The previous report said the quake killed 39,672.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan went to the quake-stricken southern province of Hatay on Monday. He plans to visit the Kahramanmaras province afterwards.
The 7.7-point quake rocked Turkey in the small hours of February 6. It caused a series of aftershocks, including a 7.6-point one. The tremors caused extensive destruction and casualties in Turkey and Syria.
