VK acquires 75% of Uchi.ru educational platform for 8.7 bln rubles, consolidates 100%

MOSCOW. Feb 20 (Interfax) - Internet company VK has become the sole owner of educational platform Uchi.ru, having bought a 75% stake for 8.7 billion rubles.

According to VK, the deal will strengthen the Internet company's position in the segment of extended school learning. The company did not disclose who the seller was.

VK became the owner of a 25% stake in Uchi.ru in December 2020, paying 3.75 billion rubles with the option to increase its stake to a controlling one through an option in late 2022 to 2023.

Uchi.ru is the largest online educational platform in Russia. More than 12 million students, 6 million parents and 800,000 teachers use Uchi.ru products and services. In addition to the educational platform, the Uchi.ru group of companies also develops the online tutoring school Uchi.Doma, the Uchi.Answers educational website, the network of Uchi.ru offline afterschool programs and centers for programming, mathematics and English and the YaClass educational online resource.

VK develops education at all levels, from school to professional training. The company's perimeter includes the educational services Skillbox, GeekBrains, SkillFactory, Uchi.ru, Umskul, Tetrica, Sphereum and others. In addition, VK develops the academic Olympiad segment via its own All Cups platform.
