Poland says not planning to shut down only remaining freight checkpoint on border with Belarus

MINSK. Feb 17 (Interfax) - Poland has said it is not planning to close the only operating checkpoint for trucks on the Polish-Belarusian border.

"The Polish-Belarusian border crossing in Koroszczyn [the Kozlovichi-Kukuryki border checkpoint on the Belarusian side] won't shut down, such was the statement Deputy Minister [of Infrastructure of Poland] Rafal Weber articulated, in particular, to members of the Polish International Freight Forwarders Association," Marcin Potapczuk, board member and the treasurer of the association said in an interview with Slowo Podlasia.

"We have received a clear assurance that the border crossing in Koroszczyn won't be closed," Potapczuk said.

Poland has officially notified Minsk of suspending the operation of the Bobrowniki (Berestovitsa) checkpoint from noon on February 10 for an indefinite period. After the closure of the Bobrowniki crossing, which was used by both people traveling by car or by bus and truckers, only two checkpoints remain operational on the Belarusian-Polish border, including Kozlovichi-Kukuryki for trucks and Brest-Terespol for cars.
