IAEA inspectors maintain permanent presence at Chernobyl NPP, monitor radiation levels - Russian HQ

MOSCOW. Feb 14 (Interfax) - Specialists of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) maintain permanent presence at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant and have repeatedly confirmed stable radiation levels in the area, the Russian interagency headquarters for humanitarian response coordination said on Tuesday.

"At least two IAEA inspectors have been permanently present at the power plant since January 2023 to monitor radiation levels in real-time," the headquarters said.

Control over the Chernobyl NPP was handed over to Ukraine on April 1, 2022, it said.

"Numerous IAEA missions to the Chernobyl NPP (that took place in April, June and November 2022 and January 2023) confirmed normal radiation levels at the plant and the surrounding area without any deviations," the headquarters said.

An IAEA report of September 2022 also confirms stable radiation levels at the Chernobyl NPP, it said.
