Rosselkhoznadzor uncovers illegal supplies of fish to Russia through Belarus

MOSCOW. Feb 14 (Interfax) - The Russian Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance (Rosselkhoznadzor) has uncovered an illegal supply chain of frozen salmon fish of unknown origin that was imported to Russia in January 2023 under the guise of products from the Faroe Islands through the territory of Belarus, Yulia Melano, adviser to the head of Rosselkhoznadzor, told reporters.

However, the government service for food and veterinary medicine of the Faroe Islands has not confirmed the fact of processing the documents accompanying the consignment of fish products.

According to Melano, Rosselkhoznadzor has informed the Belarusian agency competent in the area of veterinary medicine and the Technical Regulation Minister of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) regarding the fact of the deliveries.

"The service also addressed the Belarusian colleagues with a request to cease issuing veterinary certificates to Russian recipients for fish products entering the territory of the republic from third-country enterprises involved in illegal supply schemes," Melano said.
