Ukraine harvests 79.4 mln tonnes of main crops on 97% of planned areas

MOSCOW. Feb 13 (Interfax) - Ukraine harvested 79.4 million tonnes of main crops on 18.5 million hectares as of February 10, 2023, including 53.7 million tonnes of grains and legumes, the Ukrainian media said with the reference to the website of the Ukrainian Agrarian Policy and Food Ministry.

Crops have been harvested on 97% of the planned areas.

The harvesting of wheat, barley, peas, rapeseed, soybean and sugar beet is over. It is still necessary to harvest corn on 7% of areas, buckwheat on 2% of areas, and millet and sunflower seeds on 1% of areas each.

According to the ministry, the overall harvest of this season stands at 20.2 million of wheat from 5 million hectares, 9.1 million tonnes of sugar beet from 181,000 hectares, 5.8 million tonnes of barley from 1.7 million hectares, 3.7 million tonnes of soybeans from 1.5 million hectares, 3.2 million tonnes of rapeseed from 1.1 million hectares, and 269,000 tonnes of peas from 118,000 hectares.

As of February 10, Ukraine also harvested 26.4 million tonnes of corn on 3.9 million hectares, 10.5 million tonnes of sunflower seeds on 4.8 million hectares, 159,000 tonnes of buckwheat on 116,000 hectares, and 102,000 tonnes of millet on 45,000 hectares.

An average crop yield stood at 47.9 centners per hectare this season, including 67.2 centners of corn, 40.5 centners of wheat, 34.7 centners of barley, 28.6 centners of rapeseed, 24.3 centners of soybeans, 22.8 centners of peas, 22.8 centners of millet, 21.9 centners of sunflower seeds, 13.7 centners of buckwheat, and 502 centners of sugar beet.

Ukraine had a record harvest of 106 million tonnes of grains, legumes and oilseeds in 2021, including 84 million tonnes of grains and legumes and 22.6 million tonnes of oilseeds.

In all, Ukraine harvested 32.4 million tonnes of wheat, 40 million tonnes of corn, 10 million tonnes of barley, 581,500 tonnes of peas, 191,000 tonnes of millet, 110,000 tonnes of buckwheat, 16.3 million tonnes of sunflower seeds, 3.4 million tonnes of soybeans and 2.9 million tonnes of rapeseed in 2021.
