Klimenko appointed Ukrainian interior minister

MOSCOW. Feb 7 (Interfax) - The Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada has appointed Igor Klimenko interior minister of Ukraine.

The relevant draft resolution was supported by 321 parliamentarians at a session on Tuesday, Ukrainian media have reported with reference to Yaroslav Zheleznyak, a member of the Golos faction.

"The prime minister introduced Klimenko," Zheleznyak wrote on his social media account.

Klimenko is a 1st rank police general. After several top-ranking Interior Ministry officials died in a helicopter crash in Brovary in the Kiev region on January 18, 2023, the government appointed Klimenko deputy interior minister and acting minister. From September 25, 2019 to January 20, 2023, Klimenko served as chief of the Ukrainian National Police.
