Malyuk appointed head of Security Service of Ukraine

MOSCOW. Feb 7 (Interfax) - The Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada has appointed Vasily Malyuk head of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), European Solidarity faction member Alexei Goncharenko said.

"Vasily Malyuk has been appointed SBU head. The Verkhovna Rada has confirmed the respective nomination by the Ukrainian president," Ukrainian media quoted Goncharenko as saying on social media on Tuesday.

Malyuk has been acting head of SBU since July 18, 2022, after the previous SBU head, Ivan Bakanov, was suspended and relieved of his duties. Malyuk became an SBU deputy head on February 28, 2022. Before that, he served as a deputy interior minister.
